How my neutrophil count changed with anti-Candida Albicans supplements

As you may be aware, one of the problems I have is Candida Albicans overgrowth. I now know that it is to do with my poor blood glucose control and insulin resistance but I did not know this about a year ago. At that time I was just trying to kill Candida using supplements and herbs with zero success because I was not addressing the core issue. Nevertheless, I tested my immune health after rotating different supplements for several weeks. I tested my neutrophil count using Immune System Deficiency Test.

Neutrophil granulocytes

One thing among others that the test measures is the neutrophil granulocytes. These are white blood cells that degrade various types of particulate material such as bacteria and damaged tissue cells. I have noticed that their count is strongly affected by the type of supplement I am taking, so I did a test over several weeks to see how much difference various anti-Candida Albicans supplements make. Acceptable range according to the test manufacturer is between 48% and 88%.

Results

Week numberSupplementsNeutrophil granulocytes %
1Oregano extract, reishi, ashwaganda, digestive enzymes, B. HCL, zinc45.5%
2Olive leaf extract, papaya seeds, some enzymes and B. HCL, zinc, curcumin38.2%
3Allicin41.8%
4Grapefruit seed extract, zinc, vit C, vit D56.7%
5Strong probiotic, berberine, curcumin, NAC, zinc, vit C, vit D47.7%
6HMO, propolis extract, probiotic, vit C, vit D, zinc50.1%
7HMO, berberine, vit C, vit D, zinc, probiotic50.8%

What now?

As you can see some supplements work better than other giving a within range neutrophil count. Other supplements however may suppress this important immune system function. My advice to the public is to be very careful with trying things that do not have enough research behind them, and if you do try them, please measure at least some of your blood biomarkers to see how they affect you.

I have stopped taking all of these supplements (except for vitamin C) because I saw no difference in my Candida symptoms. After seeing the results from this I was also terrified about how much more damaging impact these supplements may be making to my body that I am unaware of. I am still considering adding vitamin D and Zinc to my diet because they seem safe but with other supplements I am highly sceptical.

Wow this is fascinating. Did you find anything that did get rid of the candida?

Thank you! I always appreciate comments. There were some things that worked better than other – e.g. propolis and sourdough bread (surprise, surprise!). But it would always come back. The problem is the whole idea of “getting rid of candida” is not right. It is not a parasite that gets to our system by mistake, it always lives in our body and has a purpose. But when conditions are out of balance, C. Albicans grows out of control. Via ZOE and now via tracking my blood glucose levels with Libre 2 CGM, I am now aware that my blood glucose control is poor which is driven by insulin resistance. I believe this is the core of Candida issue, because the “unused” blood glucose flowing in my system is essentially feeding Candida.

I believe this is why we often see people “cure” Candida on a ketogenic diet. Keto diet is often advised to people with diabetes as well (who have poor blood glucose control and insulin resistance).
