As you may be aware, one of the problems I have is Candida Albicans overgrowth. I now know that it is to do with my poor blood glucose control and insulin resistance but I did not know this about a year ago. At that time I was just trying to kill Candida using supplements and herbs with zero success because I was not addressing the core issue. Nevertheless, I tested my immune health after rotating different supplements for several weeks. I tested my neutrophil count using Immune System Deficiency Test.
Neutrophil granulocytes
One thing among others that the test measures is the neutrophil granulocytes. These are white blood cells that degrade various types of particulate material such as bacteria and damaged tissue cells. I have noticed that their count is strongly affected by the type of supplement I am taking, so I did a test over several weeks to see how much difference various anti-Candida Albicans supplements make. Acceptable range according to the test manufacturer is between 48% and 88%.
Results
| Week number | Supplements | Neutrophil granulocytes % |
| 1 | Oregano extract, reishi, ashwaganda, digestive enzymes, B. HCL, zinc | 45.5% |
| 2 | Olive leaf extract, papaya seeds, some enzymes and B. HCL, zinc, curcumin | 38.2% |
| 3 | Allicin | 41.8% |
| 4 | Grapefruit seed extract, zinc, vit C, vit D | 56.7% |
| 5 | Strong probiotic, berberine, curcumin, NAC, zinc, vit C, vit D | 47.7% |
| 6 | HMO, propolis extract, probiotic, vit C, vit D, zinc | 50.1% |
| 7 | HMO, berberine, vit C, vit D, zinc, probiotic | 50.8% |
What now?
As you can see some supplements work better than other giving a within range neutrophil count. Other supplements however may suppress this important immune system function. My advice to the public is to be very careful with trying things that do not have enough research behind them, and if you do try them, please measure at least some of your blood biomarkers to see how they affect you.
I have stopped taking all of these supplements (except for vitamin C) because I saw no difference in my Candida symptoms. After seeing the results from this I was also terrified about how much more damaging impact these supplements may be making to my body that I am unaware of. I am still considering adding vitamin D and Zinc to my diet because they seem safe but with other supplements I am highly sceptical.
